Welcome to Nicaragua, known as the land of Lakes and Volcanoes! Once you arrive in Managua, the bustling commercial and cultural hub of the country, your private guide will be there to welcome you. Prepare for a 5-hour journey covering approximately 300 km to reach San Carlos, a charming port city where Lake Nicaragua meets the San Juan River. From there, hop on a boat for a scenic two-hour ride along the Río San Juan to your jungle lodge. This lodge sits on the edge of the Indio-Maiz Biosphere Reserve, promising an unforgettable experience surrounded by lush nature.
Explore the vast Indio Maiz Biological Reserve, one of Central America's largest protected lowland forests, teeming with diverse vegetation, insects, birds, and animals. Begin your day with a two-hour jungle hike, immersing yourself in the vibrant colors of the forest's inhabitants. Afterward, start a boat excursion along the Bartola River, where you can take a refreshing swim amidst the lush surroundings.
Rise early for a birdwatching adventure led by your knowledgeable guide, who will assist you in spotting various bird species, such as the vibrant green parrot, in this unique ecosystem. Afterwards, you have the rest of the day to enjoy additional complimentary activities provided by the lodge.
Today, as we head back to San Carlos by boat, we'll stop at El Castillo, a lovely village on the Rio San Juan's southern bank. There, we'll visit the historic Fortress of the Immaculate Conception and soak in its rich history and stunning views.
After arriving in San Carlos, we'll have lunch and then travel by land for about 4.5 hours to reach Apoyo Lagoon.
Join a local guide for a beautiful hike around the crystal-clear waters of Apoyo Lagoon, nestled in a lush tropical forest. Keep an eye out for colorful birds like hummingbirds and toucans, as well as playful monkeys and other wildlife. After lunch by the lake, take some free time to relax and enjoy the serene surroundings.
Today, we're off to San Juan del Sur on Nicaragua's southern Pacific Coast! But first, we'll explore the Mombacho Volcano Natural Reserve. We'll take a walk through the lush forest around the crater, hop on a 4x4 truck to reach the top, and even visit a coffee plantation to taste some local brew. Then, we'll enjoy a short guided hike for breathtaking views of the cities, islands, and other volcanoes.
By lunchtime, we'll arrive at your ecolodge, nestled along a stunning beach hugged by tropical trees. After settling in, you can relax by the Pacific Ocean or dive into the lodge's fun activities.

Choose from things like a farm breakfast, exploring organic farming, birdwatching, horseback riding, hiking, and kayaking. Today, we'll continue our journey by land to the colonial gem of Granada, just a 2.5-hour drive away. Once there, your local guide will lead you on a walking tour of its historic center. You'll see the old city walls, the San Francisco Convent, and La Merced church, which offers stunning views from its bell tower. You'll also visit a cigar factory and the Tio Antonio social center, which provides job opportunities for people with disabilities.
In the late afternoon, we'll head to Granada port for a boat transfer to your resort on Jicaro Island in Lake Nicaragua.
