7-Day Explore the Riches of Western Germany

Today, we explore the tranquil River Moselle, a serene tributary of the Rhine known for its tranquil beauty and world-class wines. We'll discover why it's celebrated as one of Germany's premier wine regions. 

Our adventure begins with a leisurely stroll through the quaint villages nestled along the Moselle's verdant banks. Next stop takes us to the legendary Eltz Castle, a medieval fortress perched atop the hills overlooking the river. Then, we embark on a scenic boat tour from Traben to Bernkastel-Kues, soaking in the breathtaking landscapes. 

As our journey draws to a close, we make our way to Trier, a historic Roman village with over 2,000 years of history, ending our day with a delightful wine tasting. 

After exploring the city's historic buildings, we venture to Bockenheim an der Weinstrasse, marking the start of Germany's renowned German Wine Route (Deutsche Weinstraße in German). 

This scenic route stands as Germany's oldest among its esteemed wine trails, winding 85 kilometers from Bockenheim to the German Wine Gate in Schweigen-Rechtenbach on the French border.

The route leads us to Bad Dürkheim, our destination for the night. Upon our arrival, we're treated to a special visit to the world's largest wine barrel, boasting a staggering 44 million gallons of wine. 

Let's keep rolling along the enchanting German Wine Route, making our way to Schweigen-Rechtenbach near the French border. Along the way, we'll journey through charming towns like Wachenheim, Neustadt, and Edenkoben, as well as numerous quaint old villages.

Feel free to pause at any spot that catches your eye, whether it's the allure of a historic market square, or the charm of narrow cobblestone streets, or the inviting atmosphere of small local wineries perfect for a wine tasting.

Once our delightful exploration comes to a close, it's time to head back to our hotel in Bad Dürkheim for rest.

After a hearty breakfast, we'll set off on a leisurely drive to Heidelberg, nestled along the serene Neckar River. Renowned as a university town and home to the oldest Heidelberg University, it also boasts captivating castle ruins. Perched majestically atop the Königstuhl hillside, Heidelberg Castle's 400-year construction resulted in a stunning blend of Gothic, Baroque, and Renaissance styles. Take time to explore and don't miss the Vinoteca for a delightful wine tasting experience before leaving.

As the day begins, we'll journey back to Frankfurt with a captivating stopover in Worms, an ancient city steeped in history. Here, we'll embark on a panoramic tour, where the highlight awaits atop the inner city's highest point – the magnificent 12th-century Worms Cathedral. 

As we arrive back in Frankfurt, it marks the conclusion of our exploration through western Germany.
